CreativeNET is initiative work of HIVOS Southeast Asia, Indie Bandung Research and CCES (Center for Civic Engagement and Studies) Yogyakarta to facilitate social change through creative process toward structural problems faced by the community.
Amid the weakness of the government ability to respond to the basic needs of citizens, many independent efforts of some communities and community groups are increasing to create their own spaces and create solutions to some fundamental problems. How CreativeNET learns and builds knowledge with the community to work on a prototype for social change becomes one of the main characteristics of this program.
Limited job opportunities, unfulfilled rights and the right to live decent free from fear and growing marginalization of some citizens in the development process are some of the core issues that seek to be responded by collaborators in the program. We realize that not all changes can be done simply and quickly. To make social change happens, we need to increase the right thinking and solutions that are innovative and sometimes not in short time.
HIVOS believes that every human being has a right to live free and sovereign. Every individual has unlimited potential to grow and express themselves. Self-expression is a way to hack into the barriers encountered in structural problems that are experienced significantly in daily life. The embodiment of self-expression through the creative process that generates appropriate solution of, by and for the community or larger groups of people is one of the medium to achieve empowerment and equality.
Up to now, CreativeNET has been assisting eight local communities in Bandung Regency, Bandung City, Yogyakarta City and Klaten Regency to identify and create innovative solutions for any problems caused by urbanization and industrialization in the area they live.
CreativeNET facilitates local communities to produce new ideas, and collaborate with academics, social workers, artists, creative workers, activists of creative and professionals to break down boundaries, think critically out of the box to create solutions which benefits can significantly be perceived by the community.
HIVOS hopes that this CreativeNet program can offer innovative solutions to improve the social welfare of society for various parties. Lumbung Hidup exhibition which is held on October 31 to November 7, 2015 is expected to become a means of reflection and study together from various stakeholders.
